Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups Warm Water Essential for hydrating the dough
  • 1 heaped teaspoon Sea Salt Provides flavor enhancement
  • 2 cups Areparina (Masarepa) Use a mix of white and yellow varieties for better flavor
  • 1 tablespoon Avocado, Coconut, or Vegan Butter For cooking the arepas, omit if using a non-stick pan

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (176°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix warm water and sea salt in a bowl, stirring until the salt dissolves completely.
  3. Combine areparina with the water mixture, stirring gently until you form a moist, moldable dough.
  4. Shape fist-sized portions of the dough into balls, then flatten into discs about ½ inch thick.
  5. Heat a cast-iron or non-stick pan over medium-high heat, add oil, then fry the arepas for 2-3 minutes on each side.
  6. Transfer the fried arepas to your baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes until puffy and golden.
  7. Cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
