Ingredients

  • 1 cup Buttermilk Can substitute with milk and vinegar
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour Gluten-free flour works as a substitute
  • 1/2 cup Cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Fresh garlic can be used
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika Smoked paprika can be substituted
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper Optional, adjust to spice preference
  • 1 teaspoon Salt To taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Pepper To taste
For Frying
  • 2 cups Vegetable Oil Use canola or peanut oil
For the Tacos
  • 8 pieces Tortillas Small corn or flour tortillas
  • 2 cups Shredded Cabbage Mix different colors for vibrancy
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Cilantro Optional, for garnish
  • 2 pieces Lime Slices Serve on the side

Method
 

Preparing the Tacos
  1. Prepare the Bang Bang Sauce: In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and lime juice. Whisk until smooth, then set aside.
  2. Marinate Shrimp: Place shrimp in a bowl and cover with buttermilk. Let marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Prepare Coating: In a separate bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
  4. Heat Oil: In a deep pan, warm 1-2 inches of oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F.
  5. Coat Shrimp: Drain buttermilk from shrimp and dredge in flour mixture.
  6. Fry Shrimp: Fry coated shrimp in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  7. Drain Shrimp: Transfer fried shrimp to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  8. Warm Tortillas: Heat tortillas in a skillet or microwave for about 20 seconds.
  9. Assemble Tacos: Layer cabbage and crispy shrimp on each tortilla and drizzle with Bang Bang sauce.
  10. Garnish: Top with cilantro and serve with lime slices.
