  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast Active dry yeast can also work but may need proofing.
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt Omitting it can affect the flavor.
  • 0.5 cups milk Feel free to use almond milk or oat milk for a dairy-free option.
  • 0.25 cups butter Margarine or plant-based butter can serve as substitutes.
  • 2 large eggs Flax eggs or applesauce make great vegan alternatives.
For Frying and Finishing
  • 1 cups oil Use vegetable or canola oil, ensuring it reaches 350°F.
  • to taste powdered sugar Can be omitted or replaced with a sugar-free option.

Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • saucepan
  • Deep Pan
  • whisk
  • Piping Bag
  • wire rack

Method

Dough Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup of sugar, 1 tablespoon of instant yeast, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt until perfectly blended.
  2. Heat 1/2 cup of milk and 1/4 cup of butter in a saucepan until just warm, then gently mix into the dry ingredients until combined.
  3. Add 2 large eggs to the mixture, stirring to form a soft dough. Knead for 5-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Roll out the risen dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into rounds and let them rise again for 30 minutes until puffy.
Frying and Finishing
  1. In a deep pan, heat oil to 350°F. Carefully fry the doughnuts, flipping them until they are golden brown, about 2-3 minutes each side.
  2. Allow the fried doughnuts to cool on a wire rack. Once cooled, fill each with Bavarian cream and dust lightly with powdered sugar.
