- Begin by creaming softened butter and powdered sugar in a mixer until smooth and fluffy. Add in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, mixing well until fully incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar. Gradually add this dry mixture to your wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Measure one tablespoon of dough for the main part of each paw print, then create three smaller dough balls for the toes. Place them on a cookie sheet.
- Slightly flatten the larger ball of dough. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for 7-8 minutes, or until the edges are firm. Remove promptly and press an indent for the paw’s center and toes immediately.
- Allow the cookies to cool on a wire rack. While they cool, prepare the icing by mixing powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and red food coloring. Once cooled, decorate with the icing.
