Ingredients

For the Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar This sweet ingredient ensures a soft, tender cookie.
  • 1 large Egg Helps bind the ingredients together for the perfect cookie consistency.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Enhances the cookies' flavor beautifully.
  • 1 teaspoon Almond Extract Adds a lovely nutty note; delightful in these Easter treats.
  • 3 cups All-Purpose Flour The backbone of our cookie dough, providing essential structure.
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda This leavening agent helps your cookies rise and adds a nice texture.
  • 1 teaspoon Cream of Tartar Stabilizes the dough and contributes chewiness for a delightful bite.
For the Icing
  • 2 cups Powdered Sugar Essential for the icing, providing sweetness and smoothness.
  • 2 tablespoons Milk Helps achieve a perfect icing consistency.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Adds extra flavor to the icing, complementing the cookies perfectly.
  • 1 drop Red Food Coloring Used to create the signature paw print design.

Equipment

  • mixer
  • cookie sheet
  • bowl
  • wire rack

Method

Directions
  1. Begin by creaming softened butter and powdered sugar in a mixer until smooth and fluffy. Add in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, mixing well until fully incorporated.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar. Gradually add this dry mixture to your wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  3. Measure one tablespoon of dough for the main part of each paw print, then create three smaller dough balls for the toes. Place them on a cookie sheet.
  4. Slightly flatten the larger ball of dough. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for 7-8 minutes, or until the edges are firm. Remove promptly and press an indent for the paw’s center and toes immediately.
  5. Allow the cookies to cool on a wire rack. While they cool, prepare the icing by mixing powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and red food coloring. Once cooled, decorate with the icing.
