Ingredients

For the Casserole
  • 1 lb Ground Beef Main protein; cook just until browned for the best texture.
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil Ideal for sautéing the beef; can be swapped with vegetable oil if needed.
  • 1 medium Onion Adds sweetness and depth; shallots work well for a milder flavor.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Enhances overall taste; garlic powder can substitute in a pinch.
  • 1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup Provides creaminess; use homemade cream sauce for a gluten-free alternative.
  • 1 cup Milk Liquid for the soup mixture; opt for almond or soy milk for dairy-free options.
  • 2 cups Cheddar Cheese Melty topping for flavor; aged cheddar gives a richer taste, but colby jack is a good swap.
For the Biscuit Topping
  • 1 pkg Cheddar Bay Biscuit Mix Essential for that signature flavor; any biscuit mix can be used but won't replicate that unique taste.
  • 1/2 cup Butter Adds richness to the topping; margarine can substitute if necessary.
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder Bumps up the biscuit flavor; feel free to omit if garlic is not your thing.

Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • large skillet
