Preparation Steps
- In a medium saucepan, combine the old-fashioned rolled oats, water or milk, diced apple, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Stir gently to coat everything evenly.
 - Place the saucepan over medium heat and let it reach a gentle boil, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
 - Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently until the oats are soft and the apples are tender.
 - Remove the saucepan from heat, then stir in maple syrup or honey. Taste and adjust sweetness to your liking.
 - Allow the oatmeal to sit off the heat for 1 minute to thicken.
 - Serve warm, topped with your choice of chopped nuts, raisins, or fresh apple slices for extra flavor and crunch.
