Ingredients

For the Cookies
  • 1 tbsp Instant Coffee Omit if desired, but it intensifies the chocolate without imparting a coffee taste.
  • 1 cup Hot Water No substitutions.
  • 1/2 cup Butter Use unsalted for better control over sweetness.
  • 3/4 cup Brown Sugar Can substitute with white sugar for a lighter version.
  • 2 tbsp Granulated Sugar Could use coconut sugar for a different taste.
  • 1 large Egg Can use 1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce as a vegan alternative.
  • 1 1/4 cups All-Purpose Flour Gluten-free flour blend can be substituted for a gluten-free version.
  • 1/2 cup Dutch Processed Cocoa Powder Natural cocoa powder is a possible substitute but adjust baking soda.
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Soda No substitute needed.
  • 1/4 tsp Salt Use sea salt for a more nuanced flavor.

How to Make Crumbl Dirt Cake Cookies
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Combine hot water with instant coffee in a bowl, stirring until dissolved. Set aside to cool.
  3. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Mix in the large egg and cooled coffee mixture until fully combined.
  5. Gradually add the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir just until mixed.
  6. Scoop out about 1/4 cup of dough, roll into a ball, and roll in crushed Oreos. Press down gently and place on a lined baking sheet.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-13 minutes.
  8. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack. Prepare frosting while cooling.
  9. Melt chocolate chips in the microwave. Cream together butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and vanilla until smooth, then mix in the melted chocolate.
  10. Spread or pipe frosting onto each cooled cookie. Top with crushed Oreos and gummy worms.
