How to Make Almond Banket Bars
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 7 x 11-inch baking pan.
- Cream the butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes. Mix in the whole egg.
- Combine the all-purpose flour and salt in a bowl. Gradually add the dry mixture to the creamed mixture until a soft dough forms.
- Spread half of the soft dough evenly in the bottom of the greased pan. Chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
- Beat the egg white and marzipan almond paste in a bowl until smooth. Spread over the chilled dough and chill again for 15 minutes.
- Top with the remaining dough and brush with beaten egg yolk. Sprinkle sliced almonds on top.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until golden brown. Cover with foil if browning too quickly.
- Cool completely in the pan before slicing into bars.
