- Slice the oranges or tangelos into about 18–20 slices, aiming for even thickness.
- Combine the granulated sugar and water in a saucepan, stirring well to blend them together.
- Boil the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- Add the sliced oranges to the saucepan and gently mix them into the syrup.
- Simmer the mixture on low heat for 30 minutes, softening the orange slices.
- Cool the syrup after removing it from heat and let it settle.
