How to Make French Onion Dip
  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the julienned onions and season with salt. Cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally until softened and beginning to turn golden.
  2. Lower the heat to medium-low and let the onions cook for another 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally until they are deeply caramelized and have a rich brown color.
  3. Once the onions have cooled, transfer them to a large bowl. Stir in the sour cream and mayonnaise until everything is well combined and smooth.
  4. Spoon the dip into a serving dish and garnish with freshly chopped chives and a sprinkle of black pepper. Serve with potato chips or vegetable sticks for dipping.
