How to Make French Onion Dip
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the julienned onions and season with salt. Cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally until softened and beginning to turn golden.
- Lower the heat to medium-low and let the onions cook for another 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally until they are deeply caramelized and have a rich brown color.
- Once the onions have cooled, transfer them to a large bowl. Stir in the sour cream and mayonnaise until everything is well combined and smooth.
- Spoon the dip into a serving dish and garnish with freshly chopped chives and a sprinkle of black pepper. Serve with potato chips or vegetable sticks for dipping.
