  • 1 cup Purple Cabbage Can substitute with green or white cabbage.
  • 3 stalks Green Onions Use the white part for filling and save the green for garnishing.
  • 1 large Egg Essential for binding the filling.
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce Opt for gluten-free soy sauce if desired.
  • 1 tablespoon Rice Wine Vinegar Seasoned rice vinegar can enhance the taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Fresh garlic can also be used.
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger Powder Fresh ginger works well too.
  • 1 teaspoon White Pepper You can swap for black pepper if needed.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Adjust according to dietary needs.
For Cooking
  • 2 tablespoons Butter Feel free to use vegetable oil instead.
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame Oil Toasted sesame oil offers a stronger flavor.
  • 1 package Wonton Wrappers Consider making your own for gluten-free options.
  • 2 tablespoons Cooking Oil Any neutral oil works well.

Equipment

  • skillet
  • mixing bowl
  • cookie cutter
  • cutting board

Method

Dipping Sauce
  1. In a bowl, mix together rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, sliced green onions (green part), sesame seeds, sesame oil, ginger powder, and red pepper flakes. Set aside to let the flavors meld.
Filling
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground pork or chicken, minced purple cabbage, white parts of green onions, egg, soy sauce, rice vinegar, garlic powder, ginger powder, sesame oil, white pepper, and salt. Stir gently until everything is evenly blended.
Shape Wrappers
  1. Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut wonton wrappers into cute heart shapes. Keep them covered with a damp paper towel to prevent drying out while you work with the filling.
Fill and Seal
  1. Moisten the edges of each heart-shaped wrapper with a little water. Place about a tablespoon of the filling in the center, top with another wrapper, and press down to seal. Ensure no air pockets remain.
Cooking
  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat with oil and a little butter. Place the potstickers in a single layer. Add a splash of water, cover with a lid, and steam for 3-5 minutes until cooked through. Flip to achieve a golden crust.
Serve
  1. Serve the heart-shaped potstickers garnished with additional sliced cabbage, green onions, and sesame seeds, alongside the dipping sauce.
