How to Make
- Cream together softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add egg and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture and mix until fully combined.
- Whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until smooth.
- Divide the dough into three equal portions and dye each with food coloring.
- Roll each portion in parchment paper to form logs and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Once chilled, slice the dough logs into rounds about 1/4 inch thick.
- Sprinkle tops of the cookie rounds with black sesame seeds if desired.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
- Allow cookies to cool on racks before serving.
