For the Filling
  • 1 cup caramel sauce, thick and high-quality Dulce de leche makes for an even thicker alternative
  • 1 cup chocolate chunks, semi-sweet or dark Milk chocolate can sweeten the flavor, or omit for a nutty version
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts, optional (pecans/walnuts/almonds) Leave out for a nut-free variation
For the Topping
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips, semi-sweet Dark chocolate chips offer a less sweet option
  • 1 teaspoon flaky sea salt Consider using Himalayan pink salt for a unique twist

Method
 

Directions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and brown sugar. Stir in the melted butter until the mixture resembles damp crumbs.
  3. Firmly press the mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake for 10–12 minutes until lightly golden.
  4. Spread a generous layer of thick caramel sauce over the crust while still warm.
  5. Sprinkle chocolate chunks evenly over the caramel layer, followed by any optional chopped nuts.
  6. Return the pan to the oven and bake for another 10 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven, sprinkle chocolate chips over the top, and allow them to melt.
  8. Add a pinch of flaky sea salt on top if desired. Let cool completely, then chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before slicing into bars.
