  • 1 cup Lukewarm Water Adjust for consistency.
For the Syrup
  • 1 cup Water Milk can be used for richer taste.
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice White vinegar can substitute.
  • 1 teaspoon Rose Water Orange blossom water is a lovely alternative.
  • 1 teaspoon Orange Blossom Water Or use more rose water.

Method
 

How to Make Luqaimat
  1. Prepare the Sugar Syrup: In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, and lemon juice. Heat over medium until boiling, then stir in rose water and orange blossom water. Set aside to cool.
  2. Make the Luqaimat Batter: In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, sugar, yeast, baking powder, salt, and oil. Gradually add lukewarm water until thick and batter-like. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  3. Fry: Heat vegetable oil in a deep saucepan over medium-high heat. Pipe small dollops of batter into hot oil. Fry until golden brown, and drain on paper towels.
  4. Serve: Drizzle warm luqaimat with prepared syrup or serve with date syrup. Allow to soak briefly in syrup before serving.
