Preparation
- In a saucepan, mix whole milk and evaporated milk. Simmer gently over medium heat.
- Add crushed cardamom pods and sugar. Lower heat and cook for about one hour, until reduced by half.
- Stir in saffron strands just before removing from heat.
- In another saucepan, mix sugar and water. Bring to a boil until syrup reaches one-thread consistency.
- Shallow fry bread slices in ghee or butter until crisp and golden-brown.
- Quickly dunk the fried bread in the sugar syrup and arrange on a serving platter.
- Pour the thickened milk over the soaked bread slices.
- Cover with cling film and refrigerate overnight.
