Method

How to Make Strawberry Cream Cheese Heart Danishes
  1. Thaw Puff Pastry: Allow the puff pastry to thaw at room temperature for about 30–60 minutes, or overnight in the fridge.
  2. Prep Cream Cheese Filling: In a mixing bowl, beat together cream cheese, white sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth; optionally stir in food coloring.
  3. Prepare Strawberries: Fold half of the diced strawberries into the cream cheese mixture; save the rest for topping each pastry.
  4. Cut Puff Pastry: Roll out the thawed pastry and use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to make heart shapes.
  5. Create Edges: Score a 1/2-inch border around each heart shape without cutting through the dough.
  6. Fill Pastries: Spoon cream cheese mixture into the center of each heart and scatter reserved strawberries on top.
  7. Apply Egg Wash: Whisk together egg and cold water; brush over the exposed edges of the pastry.
  8. Bake: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C); bake for 12-15 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
  9. Cool & Serve: Let the danishes cool slightly; optionally dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with glaze before serving.
