  • 1/2 cup brown sugar can replace with honey or maple syrup
  • 4 cloves garlic minced; fresh is best
  • 1 tablespoon ginger grated; fresh is ideal
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch or arrowroot powder as an alternative

  • spices (e.g., red pepper flakes or chili paste) to taste

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Slice flank steak into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick.
  2. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and cornstarch until well blended.
  3. Place the sliced flank steak in the slow cooker, then pour the sauce mixture over it. Stir gently.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 3 hours or on high for 1.5 hours until the beef is fork-tender.
  5. Ladle the savory beef over steaming rice or noodles.
