  • 1 pound Ground Beef 85/15 lean-to-fat ratio; can swap with turkey or mushrooms.
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce Use gluten-free if needed.
  • 1 tablespoon Oyster Sauce Try vegetarian alternatives.
  • 1 teaspoon Brown Sugar Can substitute with honey.
  • 1 tablespoon Lime Juice Adds zesty freshness.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Chili Flakes Or use minced Thai chili.
  • 1 cup Thai Basil Leaves Chopped; can use regular basil.
For Wrapping
  • 8-10 pieces Rice Paper Wrappers Should be pliable when soaked.
  • Optional Vegetables Mint, Cilantro, Green Onion, Julienne Carrots/Cucumbers.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a skillet, warm up vegetable oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and shallots, sautéing until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  2. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula, and cook until browned.
  3. Incorporate soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, and chili flakes into the browned beef. Simmer for about 3 minutes.
  4. Mix in lime juice and chopped Thai basil, stirring everything together and allowing it to cool slightly.
  5. Prepare a rolling area with a bowl of warm water and the filling ingredients laid out.
  6. Submerge one rice paper wrapper in warm water for 5-10 seconds until pliable.
  7. Lay the softened rice paper flat and scoop a portion of the beef mixture along the bottom edge.
  8. Fold the bottom over the filling, tuck in the sides, and roll it up tightly.
  9. Continue with the remaining wrappers and filling. Serve the rolls cut in half.
