  • 1 package Puff Pastry Store-bought
  • 1 large Egg For egg wash
  • 1 tablespoon Cold Water Mixed with egg
For the Cream Cheese Filling
  • 8 oz Cream Cheese Can use dairy-free for vegan
  • 1/4 cup White Sugar Or powdered sugar for smoother texture
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 teaspoon Red Food Coloring Optional; can replace with strawberry jam
For the Topping
  • 1 cup Diced Strawberries Fresh; thaw frozen ones

Method
 

Making the Danishes
  1. Thaw the puff pastry according to package instructions, usually 30-60 minutes at room temperature or overnight in the fridge.
  2. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese with white sugar and vanilla extract until smooth. Optionally, add red food coloring and fold in half the diced strawberries.
  4. Roll out the thawed pastry and cut into heart shapes using a heart-shaped cookie cutter.
  5. Spoon or pipe 1-2 tablespoons of the cream cheese mixture into each heart, topping with reserved diced strawberries.
  6. Whisk together the egg and cold water, then brush the mixture over the pastry edges.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until puffed and golden, rotating halfway through.
  8. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
